Participants will see experts in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiological conditions work up routine clinical cases. The instructors will discuss their approaches, diagnosis and treatment options as they work up the cases. In addition a third day will provide participants the opportunity to improve their own skills under the surveillance of the experts!

Friday, March 11, lectures (Landgasthof Altwirt) 9:30 to 18:45 hours
Methods for cardiac examination: Mary Durando, Gunther van Loon, Inge Wijnberg

– Clinical examination of the circulatory system: How to discriminate physiological from pathological findings.
– Cardiac ultrasound. Possibilities and limitations: standard M-mode and 2-D measurements.
– How to take good quality ECG at rest and during exercise and read it: Discussion of cases.

– Sudden death in equine athletes
– Evaluation of training related adaptations
– To work-up and treat cardiac ventricular arrhythmias
– To diagnose, work-up and treat atrial arrhythmias

Saturday, March 12, practical work (Equine clinic am Kirchberg) 9:00 to 18:00 hours
Clinical examination of cases. Mary Durando, Gunther van Loon, Inge Wijnberg

We will work on cases at the equine clinic (atrial fibrillation, mitral, tricuspid, aortic regurgitation, ventricular septal defect, aortocardiac fistula, etc.). Participants will be divided into three groups that will follow horses through stations to be clinically examined, auscultated, ultrasound scanned and their ECG recorded under resting and exercise conditions. The findings and treatment options will be discussed.

Sunday, March 13, Workshops (Equine clinic am Kirchberg) 8:30 to 17:00 hours
Participants will work with the instructors to improve their skills on auscultation, ECG recording and interpreting, cardiac ultrasound including doppler.
